History:
Released at Macworld Expo 2007, the iPhone was heralded as the first device of its kind—an iPod, a phone, and an internet communicator all wrapped up in a single, easy to operate package. Unlike most smartphones of its time that used keyboards with or without resistive touchscreens, the iPhone used a 3.5" capacitive screen that Apple dubbed "Multi-Touch". The OS, based on then-current OS X technologies, would allow the included applets to adapt the UI to their specific tasks. A deceptively simple Home button would then allow a user to quit any task and return to the starting screen with one press.
Apple's initial feature set could not be customized and thus lagged behind most rivals. Still, it was wildly popular for its inherent ease-of-use. As the OS evolved, the iPhone would grow to match-and in a few cases to surpass-its nearest competition.
This is the phone that changed everything about phones, and sparked a revolution like none before it ever could.
