Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer, and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute a large number of games and related media entirely over the Internet, from small independent efforts to larger, more popular games. Steam is set apart from similar services primarily by its community features, completely automated game update process, and its use of in-game functionality.

It looks like certain games have trouble. For example, NyxQuest dies upon attempting to launch it. Torchlight runs, but with *really* bad FPS, and Civ 5 seems to have *improved* its FPS. I guess you win some, you lose some!

Hey sub_pop, any idea about Portal's performance?

Cheers,

I get the message "Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again" randomly when I open it even though I am online, and to my knowledge have the latest update of Steam.

9 times out of 10 I cannot get Steam to work at all.

I get an error stating Inspector quit unexpectedly. (located in Path: /Applications/Games/Steam.app/Contents/MacOS/Frameworks/Breakpad.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Inspector)

I have worked around this once or twice by dumping the breakpad folder and forcing an update, but this doesn't always work. I have also had good results restoring from older versions (Again doesn't work 100% of the time)

On Developer Preview 2 I cannot get the app to run at all. It launches into memory and process but just hangs.

Steam is hanging for me on launch as well.

Ditto here. Broken under Developer Preview 2, “Inspector” dies and then Steam itself hangs on launch.

I noticed that when you Get Info for Steam it says "Application" only under Kind. It doesn't say "Application (Universal)", "Application (Intel)", etc. I'm not sure if that is just some technical glitch, or if that hints at anything.

As claimed by an anonymous user on a duplicate of this app page (http://roaringapps.com/app:846), the latest version apparently adds support for Lion.

Not sure what the version number is (1.2, if I had to guess) - but can anyone that has the app actually verify that it is compatible, before it is added to the page?

Last time I checked, it didn't work before, then I updated it and everything works fine, UNTIL i found out that the steam folder in application support/library is missing. That would ruin everything because if you can't update and if the server says busy, game not working, etc. You can't access that app to delete the game's ncf files that will allow you to re-download the game/update to make it work. Since i'm an end user, I moved back to Snow Leopard because DP and GM will not be able to purchase Retail Lion in app store this month. Hence, someone please check for me the app folder and let me know on my twitter, thnx. Oh and PN, my left 4 dead 2, portal 1/2, team fortress 2 worked fine. You should be able to redownload on website and make it work.

It doesn't work when you download Steam and open it. The app starts to update itself but always appears an error claiming there's no internet connection, so the app goes off.

I have a problem. Just updated to Lion and I'm trying to add in a new skin. I try and go to MacHD/Users/YourUserNameForTheComputer/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/YourSteamUserName/team fortress 2/tf/materials/vgui/logos/ like on snow leopard… it's just not there. I have no steam folder in application support any more. Unless it's hidden somehow and not displaying. Any thoughts?

Tf2 kind of works as long as you don't try to switch apps with mission control

Steam runs fine on my Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, Laptop. TF2 also seems to run fen as well, along with Portal, Counter Strike, etc. The games take a PAINFUL amount of time to open though and I HATE that. And so does the signing in. That just takes a life time.

Although, sometimes Steam will just start hanging on exit…..then it will unexpectedly quit, and then it will ask to update when you open it. Extremely annoying when it happens.
