VLC Media Player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

Updates in 2.0.7:
1. fixes some regressions of the 2.0.x branch of VLC.
2. fixes track selection for PowerPC machines.
3. fixes an important regression in decoding numerous audio file formats and when encoding in MP3 and AAC.
4. closes a couple of security issues and fixes regression in our ActiveX plugin for Internet Explorer.

Hi, I am experiencing a lion freeze (causing me to have to force reboot) while using VLC. I am running Version 2.0.1 Twoflower (Intel 64bit) on a macbook pro. I also hear a strange clicking sound in the vicinity of the CD/DVD drive just before the freeze. Any thoughts before I take it in to the store to run diagnosis on the drive? Thanks ever so much

Note Mountain Lion by default needs X11 (XQuartz 2.7.2) from http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/ before you can load VLC Version 1.1.3 The Luggage (Intel 64bit)

@gopher: hello from VideoLAN. Get VLC 2.0.3 to solve this issue. X11 isn't needed by VLC at all. However, a packaging issue in the past triggered something weird in 10.8.

Dear all
since Mountain Lion, video stuttering is very annoying when opening local network video source (tv receiver), e.g. http://IPreceiver:port :( please let me know if i am the only one with the problem… otherwise i will throw ML away and will go back to Leopard or Snow Leopard

I'm having some problems with VLC. Especially when playing music with it.

Problems with sound when playing .mkv files. The sound skips every 10-30 sec. This didn't happen when I was using Snow Leopard.

I can't reproduce these glitches on my Macbook2,1. I'm aware of known graphic driver issues on some MacBookPros on OS X Lion, so this might be the reason for the experienced glitches.

I formatted my hard drive and ran a clean install of Lion via a USB flash drive and restored my programs (including VLC 1.1.11 (64-bit)) via Time Machine. So far I've had no problems, either when switching to and from fullscreen or the ability to play music videos

Yes, digital audio is broken (also in mplayer). Switch to fullscreen flickers bad (and vice versa). MBP i5, MID 2010, Fresh Lion install.

I have the same glitches on the MacbookPro 5.1 also when switching from normal mode to FullMode or vice versa. The problem only happens on some series of the MacBook Pro as it has not happen on my friend's MacBook Pro early 2011.

Optical audio out is fixed in the latest nightly builds. You can download it at nightlies.videolan.org, when you cannot wait for the next public release. ;-)
