smcFanControl lets the user set the minimum speed of the build in fans. So you can increase your minimum fan speed to make your Intel Mac run cooler. However in order not to damage your machines smcFanControl doesn't let you set a minimum speed to a value below Apple's defaults.

The app has not been updated since 2.3 in 2009 so don't expect a retina icon upgrade.

Retina owners would settle for an update that lets it actually read the temps at this point. :) At least the fan speed manual control still works though on the RMBP…

I have a 2010 MBP with Mountain Lion and smcFanControl set my minimum RPM to 2500 from 2000. Had to remove it and reset the SMC.

Does not work in OS X mountain lion. Temp reads 0 degrees C and increasing minimum fan speed does not work. Will this be fixed?

Sorry, my mistake. It may work in mountain lion but apparently not with the latest macbook pro (2012). Will there be updates?
