Messages Beta was released for OS X 10.7 Lion in February 2012. Messages Beta for Lion was discontinued on December 14, 2012.
Bundled with OS X Mountain Lion and later.
Bug in Messages Beta on Lion where it completely deletes your whole iMessage history in a conversation.
