Sibelius 7
Sibelius 7 is fully compatible with Mac OS 10.7 and 10.8. For best results, please ensure that you are running the latest version of Sibelius by clicking Help > Check for Updates…

Sibelius 6
If you are running Sibelius 6, you should ensure you are running Sibelius 6.2 for the best experience: chose Help > Check For Updates to make sure you're up-to-date.

To register Sibelius 6 on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8, you must choose the Register using a web browser on this or another computer radio button on the first page of the Register Sibelius dialog. If you try to register online, i.e. using the radio button that is chosen by default when Register Sibelius opens, as soon as you click Next you will be told that there is a problem contacting Sibelius on the Internet. Don't panic: you can simply go ahead and register via your web browser instead.

Sibelius 5
If you are running Sibelius 5, you will need to update to Sibelius 5.4, otherwise you will experience a crash when showing the Mixer window.

To register Sibelius 5 on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8, you must choose the Register by phone, fax or email radio button on the first page of the Register Sibelius dialog. If you try to register online, i.e. using the radio button that is chosen by default when Register Sibelius opens, as soon as you click Next you will be told that there is a problem contacting Sibelius on the Internet. Don't panic: you can simply go ahead and register via your web browser instead.

If you experience an error that says 'your serial number appears to be corrupted', then you will need to modify the permissions on your Library folder to allow Sibelius to write it's licence information to your hard drive. This article describes how to do this.

Sibelius 5 is not officially supported on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, just as it is not officially supported on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. However, aside from the above issues, you should find that it runs without significant problems.

Sibelius 4 and earlier
Because Lion and Mountain Lion no longer support Rosetta, which allowed PowerPC applications to run on Macs with Intel processors, versions of Sibelius prior to Sibelius 5 can no longer run at all on Mac OS X 10.7 or later. Sibelius 5 was the first Universal Binary version of Sibelius, i.e. the first designed to run on both PowerPC and Intel processors.

Does Avid support Sibelius anymore? Didn't they close down the Sibelius office in London? I don't want to get Mountain Lion until I know that Sibelius is being supported by some company.

@David - Avid is supporting Sibelius 7 for 90 days after purchase/registration. After that, we buy support. Yes, they did close the London office. Future tweaks or development of the program will be outsourced somewhere else. (FYI, The original developers tried to buy Sibelius back from Avid, but Avid wouldn't sell.)

Works.. Kind of. For most stuff. But pressing "p" for playback at a certain note or passage doesn't work. Space and play button work fine.

Also, Preferences from Sibelius menu is disabled and after a while drawing is incorrect as light distortion occurs.

No official statement from Avid? Wow, I have found them ignorant in the past and they continue to stick to this attribute.

I wish those big companies were better at communicating with it's customers.

It seems to run fine on the final release of Lion. Still some minor glitches (mixer looks a very little bit messy e.g.) but usable (at least for me, MacBook Mid2007). Need to do some serious testing tough.

Does anyone know if older versions of sibelius work with lion? I am still using v. 3 and don't want to spend the $$ for a newer version.

Has anyone tried Sibelius 5 yet. Don't have the $$$ to update to 6 and I can't lose the use of 5.

I've tested this on the final release of Lion, and none of the above issues seem to be a problem any longer. Sibelius 6.2 even seems to support 'resume,' and will automatically load the last score the user had open on launch, if the application was quit without closing that file.

The ONLY 'issue' I've seen is that the GUI doesn't support the new scrollbar design.

cf http://www.sibeliusblog.com/news/sibelius-products-on-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/

Sibelius 5.4, 6.2 apparently run OK. Sibelius 4 and earlier do not work at all due to the removal of Power PC emulation.
