10.8.1 - working after update to mountain lion on existing lion system
However
Not loading at startup after a clean install of mountain lion. Need to go into System preferences to get it to load. So I'd say not working unless it was already installed
Anyone have any advice, or know what files it adds to the system to load at startup (I still have the old Lion system archived, so could change the file)

I now have it working fine. Install using the installer, then right click on the installer. Show package Contents. Navigate to Contents>Resources. Drag the MaxMenus app to your applications folder.
System Preferences>Users&Groups. Put MaxMenus app (from Applications folder) into the Login items list.
Bingo.

Works fine for me..just take longer to load at startup.
