Some report that 0.9.8 opens, but crashes as soon as you try to scan your DVD. Handbrake hands work over to VLC and is tightly integrated with VLC. Others report that when their VLC is up to date then Handbrake does not crash.

0.9.8 works in Mountain Lion, but isn't signed. The firs time you run it you have to right click on the application and select open, thereafter it will open normally.

Mountain Lion went to sleep Mode, even if Handbrake is still running. Until it is updated, you need to run "caffeinate -u -t 7200" to delay sleep mode for 2 hours.

Version 0.9.8 on Mountain lion goes to sleep mode while encoding when I turn on sleep mode in system preference. I think that's very serious problem.
However, 0.9.8 on Mountain Lion works fine except this problem.

I agree with sph after setting up rips to go all night, In the morning I found my computer has only done 1.5 before it went to sleep. Its a pretty big problem for serious rippers

From the Handbrake Forum:
Hjo20:
"Before starting your Handbrake queue, open a Terminal window and type

caffeinate -u -t 7200

(this is a new terminal command in Mountain Lion to deal with its aggressive sleep function, where 7200 is the number of seconds you want to keep your Mac awake)

Keep the terminal window open and start your handbrake queue… and ting, put that cocktail down!

This is a really serious issue. I don't want to stay my mac awake all the time even if it is not working. It should went to sleep when handbrake is done. Handbrake needs to be updated. Setting my mac to never fall asleep should only be a temporarly solution.

For a temporary fix for the 10.8 sleep issue, download a program named "Caffeine" which installs a menubar icon making it easy to temporarily disable sleep for a period of time or indefinitely until you turn Caffeine off. I use Caffeine on my MacBook Pro during presentations or movies and will find it useful until the Handbrake devs come up with a fix.

Running Handbrake 0.9.8 x86_64 on Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and it crashes as soon as I run the queue. (ie I can select the track fine, add it to the queue, start the queue and it crashes.) Worked fin on 10.8.1?

Handbrake consistently crashes while scanning DVD source.

I should note, however that I just tested the current nightly build, and it seems to work without crashing.

At first, Handbrake wouldn't read the disc i was trying to convert, but the disc wasn't exactly pristine. MTR was able to rip it though, and then i was able to convert the VOB files. i've also been able to convert another, cleaner disc.

So my observation is that it works! Lion 10.7.1 MacBook Pro (early 2011)

takes ages to read the DVD
can add to queue
will not start encoding

Does not work on LION

To the geniuses who are complaining that Handbrake isn't reading from DVD, please stop. Handbrake doesn't take any responsibility for that. It hands all the work over to VLC. Because of tight integration with it, you may have forgotten that.

it does not work for me. When trying to simply convert an AVI to a Mp4 file (for iTunes), it instantly says "put the cocktail down, blah, blah" and doesn't do any conversion. I haven't tried ripping any DVDs though.
