DisplayConfigX stores custom resolutions in a folder called DisplayVendorID-xxxx at the location /System/Library/Displays/Overrides. Before upgrading to Lion, save a copy of your DisplayVendorID-xxxx folder. After upgrading, put the folder back and reboot your computer.

Doesn't work in Lion because the developer somehow hasn't gotten to making a Universal version since the days of PPC Macs.
