Apani has recently released version 3.5.1, which works just fine with Lion.

Version 3.5 will also work if Lion is booted with its kernel in 32bit mode (press and hold "3" and "2" keys while booting).

I hope those of you who commented earlier can help me. The Apani website is down, and it seems the company is all but gone. Can anyone please post the 3.5.1 client to a mirror, or share a torrent. You would be a lifesaver!

Thank you!

Anyone have any luck with a 3.5.1 torrent? Seems Apani has closed up shop. :(

I have the 3.5.1 but don't subscribe to a mirror or have a torrent. Not sure how to let others get to it but would be willing to make it available. Hate to put my email address here.

Hello Michael K. If you are willing to email it to me I can share it via torrents; and would be very grateful as I am stuck vpn-less since I upgraded to Mountain Lion.

Lion (10.7) Comments

[ Thomas Fischer]Thomas FischerAnonymous 21 Jul 2011 00:17

I actually contacted Apani and asked them about compatibility with Lion. Here is their response:

We are hearing that our client does work with Lion, but only in 32 bit mode, see link below for details.

This link is to an article from Apple that describes how to get the Mac into 32-bit mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3773. Once the Mac is in 32-bit mode the Client will start working.

Sincerely

—Apani Support

I'm currently running Snow Leopard, but will post an update after upgrading to Lion…

Thanks Thomas. I have been able to connect in 32-bit mode in Lion.

No luck in 64-bit though. If I manually start the nleac process in /private/etc/netlock, the local web port starts up but never connects.

I think the only file in the installer that is PowerPC is called SetFile.

A colleague of mine received a message from Apani on July 21st stating that they will be releasing a 64 bit version of their client for Mac OS X Lion:

Ed Bishop, Jul-21 15:17 (PDT):

Hello xxxxx,

Yes, we will have a 64 bit client out shortly, I do not know the release date, but we will be making an announcement.

Sincerely,
—Apani Support

So, I guess we just need to wait and see now for full 64bit compatibility. I would assume that an updated install package would also drop the PPC parts…

Saw the following on Apani's website today:

https://service.apani.com/entries/20304091-does-the-apani-vpn-client-support-mac-os-x-10-7-lion

Does the Apani VPN Client support Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)?

Yes, Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) is supported in VPN Client version 3.5.1. Customers with active maintenance are eligible for this upgrade. New purchases and maintenance renewals can be made by clicking here.

I've put in a request to renew my Apani maintenance contract ($20/year), and am now waiting for Apani to send me a URL so that I can download and test the new version (3.5.1)…
