what are the problems on 10.8??

[ al]alAnonymous 26 Jul 2012 16:33

I just upgraded to 10.8 yesterday on my 13" MBP. Chrome 20 is my default web browser. I have not experienced any problems with it. Despite what's noted above, Facebook and Google Mail work fine as well.

I am unsure if there is a dev version out there with problems or how things work on the retina MacBook Pro.

It could be a bizarre coincidence, but ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion (from Snow Leopard, I missed out Lion) Chrome is acting up. Sometimes pages don't render correctly at all (as if the stylesheet isn't loading). Flash is intermittent (I believe Chrome uses its own version of Flash). Sometimes text in dropdown menus doesn't display.

Chrome 20 on OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion" definitely acts weird. Pages do not load or stop loading half-way through; a reload resolves the problem. Very odd and very annoying.

I did encounter some issues with the recent releases on the dev channel, but haven't had any issues since I've gone back to version 20.x from the regular release channel under Mountain Lion

I had issues with running Gmail and Facebook in Chrome on my MBP retina, but only when my laptop was set to use only the integrated graphics card, and not the discrete graphics card (I gfxCardStatus). When set to use the discrete graphics card, it works just fine.

I have 2 macs. Upgraded both to Mountain Lion. One is fine, and on the other, Chrome just quits unexpectedly every time.

Chrome works properly.

There was mention of scrolling problems - but I haven't had any. My guess is they're referring to the reversal in mouse scrolling that Lion introduces. This can be changed in the Mouse settings under System Preferences - very top option.

Unable to download files, application crashes.

Figured out how to enable file downloads.

Go to Preferences, Under the Hood, deselect Ask where to save each file before downloading.

The omnibar seems to have a dual highlight - Chrome's custom highlight, as well as the OS default. It also uses the Aqua style scrollbars.

On 10A419 Chrome fails to quit. It needs Force Quit. Chrome Beta works, though.

Dev doesn't work, and Beta has horrible memory leak for me (1GB RAM + 1.5 GB SWAP after 2-3 hours of usage).

[ johnsmith]johnsmithAnonymous 15 Apr 2011 22:12

Chrome Beta will not quit properly - requires a force quit every time. Running Chrome 11.0.696.44 beta and Lion Build 11A419.

[ Rob]RobAnonymous 19 Apr 2011 15:01

It seems like the leaks are slower in 11.0.696.50 under 11A430e.

Switch to the dev channel for version 12. Works pretty much fine apart from sometimes quitting messily. WebGL was the only thing that wouldn't function at all; haven't tested this with that build on SL to trace this though.

Lion DP3 seems to have fixed the issue with quitting. Chrome Canary 13.0.771.0 exits cleanly in 11A459e. Not sure yet about memory leaks.

[ Greg]GregAnonymous 16 Jun 2011 15:06

Current stable version of Chrome now quits cleanly on both stock Lion DP4, as well as DP4 with updates applied via Apple's Software Update.

Works fine, except for the full screen mode: alternates between the old full screen (in the current Space) and a faulty version of the new one in which it doesn't expand to a proper full screen, but leaves the sides open. Also the tab bar appears to be blurred with the adress bar.

[ Kowasu]KowasuAnonymous 04 Jul 2011 06:33

It doesn't fully support the new multitouch gestures : a two fingers swipe to the left should lead to the previous page, yet it tries to scroll horizontally. And the three fingers swipe switches to previous space !

what @kowasu posted. The two fingers swipe doesn't work and three fingers got to spaces. Full screen mode aint working very well too.

The Chrome 13 Beta Will Not Auto Update. I Keep Having To Go To The Beta Site, & Re-Download.

[ THEone]THEoneAnonymous 12 Jul 2011 01:12

the reason it doesn't support the gestures is because they need the right APIs to be used properly. when chrome makes a version made for Lion, it will include gestures and fullscreen

[ sinbad21]sinbad21Anonymous 13 Jul 2011 12:57

Works perfectly now. To recover the gesture you have to go in Trackpad preferences and verify that the 3 fingers gesture that you wish is not affected to something else (as spaces).

Anyone having a problem with extremely slow page rendering? It could just be my perception, but it seems I'm "waiting" for much longer time periods.

If you switch it so that three-finger side-swipes should now go between pages instead of between spaces, Chrome crashes. Continually and instantly the moment you try to use the three-finger side-swipe.
